Purpose
Isolated congenital eyelid retraction is a very rare condition with few cases described in the literature. It can be associated with congenital thyroid disease, and midbrain syndrome thus workup is warranted. We present an isolated case of congenital severe eyelid retraction.
Methods
A case report
Results
We are presenting a very rare case of isolated congenital eyelid retraction. A 4-month-old boy presents with severe eyelid retraction. The pregnancy and birth both healthy with a 4-kg birth weight. On exam hirshberg reflex central, extraocular movements full with no proptosis. In primary position, there was intermittent XT and decreased supraduction. Cornea clear. Normal pupillary reflexes. On dilated funduscopic exam, normal disk macula and retinal periphery were seen. He was sent for a workup including MRI brain and orbits which was completely normal. Thyroid function tests were all normal. This is a very rare occurrence of congenital eyelid retraction with a normal brain scan and normal thyroid functions.
Conclusion
There are only a few case reports of this rare entity described in the literature. We are observing the patient currently until he gets to be a bit older then will consider surgical correction options, and timing of surgery
