Purpose
To provide useful tools for the surgeon to avoid complications in the management of potentially complicated orbital dermoid cysts. Highlight clinical and diagnostic imaging characteristics that might indicate a complicated case dealt with. To offer management strategies for complicated orbital dermoid cysts.
Methods
We review 4 cases of complicated orbital dermoid cysts that were diagnosed, analyzed and operated in our medical center.
Results
All 4 cases were concluded eventually with complete cysts excision. One case was complicated with cyst to skin fistula and was re-operated. In one case the dermoid cyst was not excised completely, developed further on to multiple lobed cysts and was re-operated towards a complete excision.*surgery video will be presented
Conclusion
This abstract aims to explore the clinical manifestations, diagnostic imaging modalities, and management strategies for complicated orbital dermoid cysts. We aim to detect pre-operation, the dermoid cysts that are in potential to turn into complicated cases such as cyst rupture, cyst fistula, incomplete cyst excision and orbital cyst infection. Considerations such as cyst location, size and shape should be taken into account, and determine the surgical orbital approach, vectors of manipulating the cyst out of the orbit, while maintaining patient safety and satisfactory cosmetic result.
