Reflections on the 40th ESOPRS Annual Meeting in Nice
After two years of pandemic, with one ESOPRS meeting cancelled and one held virtually, we finally had the opportunity to see each other again face to face in Nice for the 40th ESOPRS Annual Meeting. The excellent scientific program combined with the opportunity to personally share clinical experiences, have lunch and dinner together, dance and share memories made this year’s Annual Meeting a great success. We had over 700 participants from 65 different countries that attended the scientific meeting and over 350 participants in the pre-meeting course.
The meeting had a perfect balance between cosmetic and functional oculoplastic surgery and four great keynote lecturers: Hirohiko Kakizaki, Naresh Joshi, Raymond Douglas and Karl-Heinz Emmerich, who each gave us the latest update on their area of expertise.
Lelio Baldeschi was the Mustardé lecturer this year and gave a comprehensive presentation on “Graves orbitopathy, a disease known for 2500 years”.
Live surgery and live injections, a tradition for French meetings, were also present in Nice. We had the opportunity to see Drs Cyrielle Bela, Frederic Braccini, Jacques Lagier and Jean-Marc Ruban perform live minimally invasive and surgical periocular rejuvenation procedures from Clinique du Parc Imperial.
The Gala Dinner this year was held at the Blue Beach restaurant and club, located on the Promenade des Anglais, where good friendship, food, music and wine made us forget, at least for a while, the harsh couple of years that we have all been through.
It certainly feels that this meeting in Nice has turned a new page in our professional lives and now we are looking forward with excitement to the next in person meeting: The Full Member Ski Meeting that will take place in Soldeu, Andorra on March 9-11, 2023 organized by Miguel Gonzalez-Candial, Simon Woodruff and myself.
