Purpose

Eccrine spiradenoma is a sweat gland tumor that occurs extremely rarely in the periorbital region. It usually appears as a painful or painless superficial nodule.

Methods

A 51-year-old man presented with a gradually growing, nodular mass along the lower anterior rim of the right orbit, which he had known about for the past 6-7 years, and which had become extremely painful in the past few months.Clinical examination and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the orbit revealed a painful mass measuring 10 × 10 x 6 mm, which was attached to the underlying structure.

Results

The tumor was excised in toto, and histopathological examination indicated a benign eccrine spiradenoma with rare mitoses. After five months of follow-up, the patient is feeling well and has no signs of recurrence.

Conclusion

Through a literature search, we identified 6 papers on the topic of eccrine spiradenoma in the periocular region.
Eccrine spiradenoma is a rare benign tumor occurring in the periocular region. It typically presents as a nodular mass, which may be either painful or painless. Complete surgical excision is the preferred treatment. The tumor can rarely transform malignantly and these patients should be carefully monitored.
