Purpose

Euryblepharon is a congenital eyelid anomaly that can potentially lead to severe complications, including corneal perforation. In this report, we present a case of euryblepharon admitted to our clinic due to recurrent hordeolum and desmetocele.

Methods

A 16-month-old female with congenital bilateral eyelid deformity was referred to our department due to recurrent bilateral hordeolum and a corneal ulcer in the left eye. Physical examination revealed bilateral euryblepharon and left-sided lagophthalmos associated with a desmetocele. A self-sealed perforation was identified in the desmetocele area, necessitating repair with a corneal rim graft; bilateral lateral canthoplasty was performed in the same session to address the underlying eyelid malposition.

Results

On final clinical examination, the bilateral eyelid deformity was fully corrected with no new hordeolum formation. The corneal rim graft was found to be intact and stable.

Conclusion

Early surgical management of euryblepharon significantly reduces the incidence of sight-threatening corneal complications. Surgical and anatomical success can be achieved through lateral canthoplasty.
