Abstract ID: 26-352
Treatment of ectropion and entropion using CO₂ laser technology
Author: SARFATI ERIC Base Hospital / Institution: SAINTE MUSSE TOULON
Presentation Type: Video Presentation
Purpose
The authors propose a new alternative to surgical treatments for ectropion and entropion
Methods
The authors propose the use of a CO₂ laser on the conjunctival surface of the eyelid to treat ectropion, and on the cutaneous surface of the eyelid to treat entropion. They describe the technique and outline its advantages and disadvantages.
Results
In a series of 80 patients, success rates were around 80% for ectropions and 60% for entropions. The technique is constantly evolving to increase the success rate.
Conclusion
The use of CO₂ lasers to treat certain conditions in older patients appears to be proving very popular with those patients who do not necessarily wish to undergo surgery. The procedure is carried out in the doctor’s surgery under local anaesthetic, without the need to stop taking anticoagulants. The results are good, but as the technique continues to evolve, they are set to improve further.
