EYELID TUMORS ARISING AT BURN SCARS

Presentation Type: ePoster Presentation
Purpose
Cutaneous malignancies are well known to arise at previously injured, burned or chronically inflamed dermal tissues. However, very few such cases are reported at burn scars on the eyelids.
Methods
We report two cases of baso-squamous carcinomas secondary to scars due to thermal burns, at the lower eyelid.
Results
In both cases the burn scars were due to hot molten metals. Both cases presented the malignancies around two years after the burns. Macroscopically both cases presented fine vessels at an area with pearly raised edges. Additionally, both cases needed extended resection and reconstruction of the tumors.
Conclusion
Carcinomatous burn scar formation is commonly reported at the scalp or the extremities. However, although scarce at the literature, eyelid malignancies secondary to burns, should be in the differential diagnosis.
