38th ESOPRS Meeting 2019 in Hamburg

Thank you

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is hard to believe that the Hamburg ESOPRS meeting is already over! There is still so much to discuss and have we really met everybody and spent time with those who we only see every once in a while?
Haven’t we just said “Hi, nice to meet you, but sorry, I have to listen to that next presentation, we´ll catch up afterwards…” – only to not meet because then there was something else going on and: why is there not another day to meet and talk and exchange our ideas? Weren´t we just happy and busy and wanted to go on…?

If that is what you are feeling, travelling back a little exhausted, then we have accomplished our aim of bringing you all together by setting the stage and providing this year´s home for our society and guests.

We – that was not only the Hamburg organizing team! It was you!
Your contributions, your discussions, your questions and answers, your participation, your presence.

Without you, nothing would have happened! It was a pleasure hosting you in Hamburg!

And yes, there will be another day. Several, in fact, coming soon! The new year will find of us joining the Winter Meeting organized by Olivier Galatoire. It will be on our website soon.
Let´s work out, get in shape and work on our French…
…and our Italian, because surely: who would miss ESOPRS 2020 in Naples!

Thank you again for coming to Hamburg!

See you in 2020

Welcome Words from Katharina Fegebank,
Second Mayor and Minister for Science, Research and Equalities Hamburg

Ladies and gentlemen,

Welcome to the 38th Annual Meeting of the European Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery! Welcome to Hamburg!

You have toured through Europe in the past decades. What a great honour for the city of Hamburg to continue this tradition and host Europe’s leading meeting for ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Hundreds of experts from around the globe have already registered. They will have the chance to listen to international keynote lectures and to connect professionally across borders.

Making contacts across borders is very important for the people of Hamburg, as internationality is one of our main assets. For centuries our town has been known as the “gateway to the world” – thanks to our bustling port. Today, Hamburg is more than a maritime city. It is a city of science, a city of knowledge and of academic discourse.

Four clusters of excellence are currently attracting outstanding researchers from around the world and we are proud to have been awarded “University of Excellence”. Universität Hamburg is one of eleven German universities to bear this title.

Our growing passion for science needs meetings like yours. They are valuable platforms for trainings, for debates, discussions and perhaps even co-operations on an international basis. So please go ahead and immerse into this year’s programme.

I wish you a successful conference, an enjoyable stay, and many happy returns to Hamburg.

Katharina Fegebank

Second Mayor and Minister for Science, Research and Equalities Hamburg
