Curio-Haus

Rothenbaumchaussee 11
20148 Hamburg

The Curio-Haus is located centrally in Hamburg, close to Hamburg’s Main Station, Convention Center and city center.

The historical building was constructed in the year 1911 for the society of the “Friends of the Patriotic Education and Upbringing”, named after the founder of the society Johann Carl Daniel Curio. The organization is the oldest teachers’ union in the world.

In the 1920´s the Curio Haus was a favored meeting point for the artist scene of Hamburg. During World War II the building was barely affected by bomb damage and served as a courtroom for war criminal tribunals of the British court in the years after. From the sixties till nineties the building was used as cafeteria of the adjoining university. Since 2004 the Curio Haus belongs to one of the major conference venues and offers a perfect symbiosis of cultural-historical monument and unique venue.
